Estimated Daily Calorie Needs

These values estimate the calories needed to maintain the same body weight at different activity levels.

Sedentary Little or no exercise
0 kcal/day
Lightly Active Exercise 1 3 days/week
0 kcal/day
Moderately Active Exercise 3 5 days/week
0 kcal/day
Very Active Exercise 6 7 days/week
0 kcal/day
Extra Active Very hard exercise or physical job
0 kcal/day
Based on your selected activity level, your estimated maintenance calories are:

0 kcal/day

How is BMR calculated?

This calculator uses the Mifflin St Jeor equation.

For men:

BMR = (10 weight in kg) + (6.25 height in cm) - (5 age) + 5

For women:

BMR = (10 weight in kg) + (6.25 height in cm) - (5 age) - 161

Estimated daily calorie needs are calculated by multiplying BMR by an activity factor.

Important: BMR and daily calorie calculations are estimates. Actual energy requirements can vary with body composition, health, pregnancy, medications, training level and other individual factors. This calculator is intended for general informational use by adults and is not a medical or dietary prescription.

BMR Calculator

Vedicaly's BMR Calculator helps estimate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), which represents the approximate amount of energy your body uses while at rest to maintain essential functions such as breathing, circulation and body temperature.

How to Use the BMR Calculator

Enter the required information such as your age, sex, height and weight. The calculator will estimate your BMR and display the approximate number of calories your body uses per day at rest.

What Is Basal Metabolic Rate?

Basal Metabolic Rate is an estimate of the energy required by your body to perform basic life-sustaining functions while at rest. It does not represent your total daily calorie needs because physical activity and other factors also contribute to daily energy expenditure.

What Factors Affect BMR?

BMR can vary according to factors such as age, sex, height, weight and body composition. Because individuals differ, calculated BMR values should be considered estimates rather than exact measurements.

Is BMR the same as daily calorie requirement?

No. BMR estimates energy expenditure at rest. Your total daily energy expenditure is generally higher because it also includes physical activity and the energy used to digest and process food.

Can BMR help estimate daily calorie needs?

Yes. A BMR estimate can be used as a starting point when estimating total daily energy expenditure by accounting for activity level. The result remains an estimate and individual energy needs can vary.
