Measurement Tips

  • Use a flexible measuring tape.
  • Keep the tape level around the body.
  • Keep it snug without compressing the skin.
  • Take measurements consistently each time.
  • Women also need a hip circumference for this formula.

How is body fat estimated?

This calculator uses circumference equations commonly known as the U.S. Navy method.

For men, the calculation uses:

Height + Neck Circumference + Waist Circumference

For women, it uses:

Height + Neck Circumference + Waist Circumference + Hip Circumference

The calculator converts Metric measurements internally so the circumference equation is applied consistently.

Important: This is only an estimate of body-fat percentage. Circumference equations can differ from methods such as DEXA and other body composition assessments, and results are sensitive to measurement technique. Do not use a single result as a diagnosis or as the sole basis for medical, nutrition or fitness decisions.

Body Fat Calculator

Vedicaly's Body Fat Calculator helps estimate body fat percentage using the measurements requested by the calculator. Body fat percentage represents the estimated proportion of a person's total body weight that consists of fat.

How to Use the Body Fat Calculator

Enter the required body measurements and other requested information into the calculator. The tool will use these values to calculate an estimated body fat percentage.

What Is Body Fat Percentage?

Body fat percentage is the proportion of total body weight made up of body fat. The remainder includes components such as muscle, bone, organs and body water.

Why Can Body Fat Estimates Vary?

Body fat estimates can vary depending on the calculation method, measurement accuracy and individual body characteristics. Results from an online calculator should therefore be considered estimates rather than precise measurements.

Is body fat percentage the same as BMI?

No. BMI is calculated using height and weight, while body fat percentage estimates how much of a person's body weight consists of fat. They measure different aspects of body composition.

Is an online body fat calculation exact?

No. Online body fat calculators provide estimates based on formulas and the measurements entered. More direct body-composition assessment methods may produce different results.
